As millions of people file their 2024 tax returns, the Internal Revenue Service today reminded taxpayers to use the Where’s My Refund? tool on IRS.gov to confirm receipt of their return and track a refund.
Taxpayers who file electronically can typically use the tool within 24 hours of filing. For paper returns, it usually takes about four weeks before status updates appear.

The Where’s My Refund? tool is available and is mobile-friendly via the IRS2Go app. It gives real-time updates and avoids the need to call the IRS directly.

To check refund status, taxpayers need:
- Social Security or ITIN

Refund Delivery
Most refunds are issued in less than 21 days if filed electronically with direct deposit selected. Paper returns or incomplete details may delay refunds.
